I’ve recently been following a travel hashtag on Twitter, #FriFotos, where all the social media savvy travel gurus seem to congregate on a Friday (naturally) to share their photos on a weekly theme. A fortnight ago I dipped my toe in the water and tweeted a photo on the theme of ‘stone’. There were dozens of fabulous pictures of ancient monuments and iconic buildings. Me, I posted a photo of yours truly standing next to a statue of a willy, outside the Penis Museum in Iceland. (see post, HERE, if you haven’t had the pleasure)
As the theme this week is ‘capitals’ I couldn’t decide which photo of which capital city, to submit to the esteemed gathering. So I decided to gather a photo from each city into one blog post. I’ve tried to find a photo which fully represents the spirit or history of each location. You’ve probably seen all the silly ones – the podgy Spiderman in Madrid and the perky bookshop sign in Copenhagen – so these are my sensible offerings. You’ll notice I haven’t included London or Edinbugh – can’t find a decent photo of either, anywhere in my files. Hopeless! You can follow the #FriFotos on Twitter yourself and see what other travellers have posted.

Your photos are fab, and as I don't tweet I hope you still plan to blog and not move over to just tweeting!
The Eiffel Tower is like that pretty girl in the room who can just never take a bad picture. Beautiful from every angle! Great photos!
@Libby – No worries, the blog is here to stay.
@amanda – Thank you for coming over. What a lovely way to describe the Eiffel Tower – very apt. That photo was taken by my son who was 12 at the time. I thought it was a bit different from the normal shot.
I was in Ottowa in April '96 – it was so cold all the fountains had frozen solid. An amazing sight.
@Andrea – Isn't it! All those gorgeous colours of the harbour buildings.
@Steve – Now that must have been incredible to see.
What beautiful beautiful photographs! Funnily enough I was at your second one down this very morning, and very busy it was too! Emma 🙂
@Emma – I think what's made a difference with the photos is I was fiddling with the width settings of my blog. I realised if I took it a bit wider I could put an extra large photo on a post – which just looks so much brighter.
I wish I'd been with you – we could have had a coffee and dangled our legs over the harbour wall!
If you sit on the harbour wall, it is against the law to drink coffee… You are only allowed to drink beer, but that's fine by me too! 🙂
PS. It's not really against the law, but I have only ever seen people drinking cans of Tuborg sitting there!
@Emma – Haha! Do you know, when I wrote that reply I was going to say 'beer' and then thought coffee sounded more ladylike!
Lovely photos Trish – you have a good eye!
Damn! your photos are really good!
@Curry Queen and @Macy – Thank you both; I'm convinced the reason they look better is that they are bigger on the blog than they usually are. Rory took the Paris one and I keep telling him to take more photos as he took some fab shots on that holiday.
