The Gallery – Travel – This way to the Devil’s Arse

Trish Burgess Posted on12/07/201107/04/2016 The gallery 27 Comments

This week’s Gallery theme is ‘travel’ so instead of trying to pick a favourite destination I’ve trawled through my digital albums to find a selection of holiday photos which will hopefully put a smile on your face. My mantra for travel is to find the absurd and have a good laugh…usually at my husband’s expense.

Let me know which one is your favourite or why not improve on my captions which, you will note, are particularly lame so that yours will look even better!

Very true (Derbyshire, UK)

I do hate it when people damage the spines of books (Copenhagen, Denmark)
Superhero gone to seed (Madrid, Spain)
Compare the Meerkats (Sirmione, Lake Garda, Italy)

Apparently it’s Danish for ‘final sprint/end of sale’ (Copenhagen, Denmark)
Look, no hands! (Paris, France)

It’s been a hard day (Reykjavik, Iceland)

Prehistoric Man…and a statue (Dordogne, France)

    Isn't Slutspurt the title of that book on the bookshop sign?

    I think you're right – that's how she caused the damage!

    @Jean – Haha! You're kidding! Wonder if people are queuing to sign up!

    Devil's Arse in Derby… doesn't surprise me in the slightest, although I think it often visits our bedroom of a night.

    I feel the need to visit Devils Arse.

    Great photos. Would change the captions on two though — purely from personal experience. The one in Reykjavik — what I frequently, under my breath, call my husband "Block Head". The one with Dougie with the statue in the Dordogne is a typical pose of a tourist husband "Lord what the hell is she dragging me to see now??". Definitely couldn't improve on the "No Hands" or the Copenhagen captions.

    I have to vote for Spiderman-gone-to-seed but I'm fairly sure that my husband would vote for the lusty book shop cupid.
    We love to take photos of the absurd, too.
    One of our favorites was on the drive through Northern Kentucky on the way to Cincinnati where we passed 'Big Bone Lick State Park'
    Husband always thought that one was so witty…
    Wonderful photos!

    Jeepers, you've been everywhere man. My fave? The guy in Madrid who HAS to be the same superdude we met in Barcelona. He obviously just wants to be in blogs!

    @Very Bored – it alternates with our house then.

    @Tattie – a great 'boy' photo indeed!

    @Kelloggsville – it's in the Peak District and a very nice arse it is too!

    @Marion – Blockhead is perfect haha!

    @MsCaroline – What a name for a state park – I must tell mu hubby that one, it's his level too.

    @Aboutlastweekend – oh you've met him. You'd think if he was flying between Madrid and Barcelona he'd have got that belly toned up a bit!

    Great photos! I love the Devil's Arse. We took a couple of similar shots on our recent holiday to Sardegna, a town called Buggeru and public transport with the initials ARST – really made me giggle

    Hahah those are great! I remember in France we went past a place called Fanny's Frites – needless to say we didn't buy anything from there.

    Slutspurt – could have proved handy for the recent SlutWalk in London…

    @jfb57 – feel free to use them!

    @marisworld – it's good to be really childish and giggle at rude names!

    @Funky – my pleasure!

    @Amanda – I have no idea why a bunch of plastic meerkats were positioned in a pretty Italian square but I took a photo anyway

    @Laura – I'm sure Fanny's frites would have been very..erm..tasty?

    @Kate – Ha, yes it could! The shoes in the photo were decidedly unslutty I thought!

    Oh these are brilliant! I'm glad I wasn't drinking when I saw the 'slutspurt' one – I would have had a very wet keyboard.

    Fabulous post, thanks for making me laugh 🙂

    @Emma – how did I miss Turistfart!!?

    @mumsarcade – glad you enjoyed them. I felt like being silly rather than wax lyrical about the places we've been.

    @SAHM – we all need a good laugh. Glad your keyboard was safe!
