Mum’s Gone to Iceland – Day Fifteen – Going Home

My favourite view of Iceland – Thingvellir – just heavenly.

Pack our bags for the final time this morning to head off to the airport. After seven hotels we’ve got used to living out of cases but the bin bag of dirty washing, which until now has been growing bigger each day in the boot of the car, now has to find a home amongst the clean stuff! Nice!

On the flight home, which is peaceful and stress-free, I spend some time absorbing all the events of the past fortnight. I had a fair idea before embarking on such a holiday that it would take me out of my comfort zone but I am rather proud of the fact that I actually tackled all of the activities. Okay, so I have grumbled, whined and complained along the way but I’m secretly chuffed to bits that I survived the ordeal and I’ve had a fantastic time. What a gorgeous country Iceland is: I will certainly return some day to explore the other gems we have missed.Thank you Discover the World for planning such a varied, inspirational itinerary. But hope you don’t mind if I hide the brochure for a while in case hubby gets another bad case of “adventure-itis”……a girl needs a beach and a touch more sun before she dons her waterproof trousers again!
