Anyone short of a pumpkin?

Pumkin field, Spalding, UK

I took this photo last week of a field very near us. Pumpkin growing in the UK is a relatively recent development and in South Lincolnshire, where we live, is Europe’s biggest pumpkin grower.

Over the last few years the town of Spalding has embraced the annual harvest with a Pumpkin Parade through the town in mid-October. The crowned Flower Queen rides in a pumpkin coach, we have stalls in the marketplace and fireworks. Children dress up, there’s entertainment and, of course, loads of pumpkins.

Which makes me wonder why I still haven’t bought mine….

Wouldn't it be great if someone carved every one of those pumpkins… that would freak out the farmer something rotten.

I'll start in the bottom left hand corner.

You might need quite a lot of cream…

Marvellous sight! It looks like it's been raining pumpkins, like a freak hail storm!

Yes, especially the squashed ones – they looks as if they have just landed!

I must confess that I do like to examine every one carefully before deciding which one to buy. I could be a while…….

Great shot – don't they look lovely! I actually managed to grow a couple this year! And my eldest is home for the weekend from Uni and I think there's going to be some soup being made! 🙂

I should try growing them myself – we obviously have the right soil/conditions for them. Just as long as they don't breed like the ones in the photo!
      Enjoy the soup, Ross!

I didn't even get out of the car to take it as it was muddy so just wound the window down, with Dougie pestering me to get a move on as we were getting in the way of other cars! No appreciation for my art…

An orange-coloured field is pretty unusual, isn't it.
I don't use pumpkins half as much as I should.

Doesn't that look really weird? Or is it just me?
