Feeling hot…

Trish Burgess Posted on01/02/201310/08/2016 30 Comments

In my last post I promised you a photo of the purchased copper radiator which was deemed a bit off-the-wall for the cappuccino-coloured bathroom but just the ticket for the kitchen. The fitter has plumbed it in today so here it is, It’s about 6ft high, feels very smooth to touch and warms my bottom beautifully when I lean against it. I think it looks good, positioned on the wall near the hall, linking in with the exposed brickwork. Each sheet of metal is apparently individually etched so every radiator is unique, so I’m treating it like a piece of art. Even the fitter, who initially thought we were off our rocker, has grown to appreciate it and is less inclined to cart it off to see how much it would get for scrap.

Ooooh, lovely. I've never seen anything like that!

When we had the new kitchen put in we didn't even think about changing the radiators. It was only when we saw this brochure whilst dithering about the bathroom that we realised you could get funky designs. It would have been wasted in bathroom and overbearing. Glad you like it. Company that makes it is called Bisque.

Thanks Libby. We're very pleased and like that mix too. It's certainly very sturdy.

I did think it was a piece of art!!!! Possibly the most beautiful radiator I have ever seen.

Yeah! Our splurge purchase and I'm so glad we went ahead with it.

    It is lovely….

….but I'd need a ladder to hang me knickers and socks over the top of it

    Justsaying!

(I never not once pretended to be posh!)

We do have another basic radiator in the kitchen for the draping upon of knickers and socks although I try and drape my pants on upstairs radiators if I know I'm expecting visitors ( that could be read in so many ways!!)

It just looks gorgeous and warm and modern all at the same time. I love copper!

We chose it from a brochure which was a bit risky but it's just as we'd imagined it would be. Dougie now looking at all the old radiators in the house and getting ideas…!

Wasn't sure what to expect when I saw the title of your post – were you on holiday in some sun-drenched location? were you ill with a fever? were you feeling the effects of all those menopausal hot flushes or were you just desperate for a snog? Your new radiator is in complete contrast to all of the above and it's simply stunning – it reminds me of that Gustav Klimt painting (The Kiss?back to snogging again!) and it goes so well with your brick wall, which I also love.x

You're right, it does have a similarity with the Klimt painting. So pleased you weren't disappointed with the post having read the title: it could well have been about all the themes you mention 😉

Tate Modern should be calling for the Hot art Exhibition, methinks.

As long as they return it quickly – I can't do without heat at that end of the room.

Yeah, Funky thinks it's funky! All our other radiators are boring too. This may be the start of something…

Thank you! I used to think the only alternative to a radiator was a heated towel rail. Who knew what arty farty things could be created for your plumbing!

    it's amazing!

question from blue-lipped Yank: does it in fact give off heat? (have sat hunched and shivering next to too many electric fires)

    • Trish Burgess Reply
      03/02/2013 at 1:27 pm

It does give off heat. The radiator pipes are behind the copper and, according to the brochure, this size should give off 900 watts. No idea how hot that is though!

Wow. That really is a work of art. And it keeps your bum warm too! Now that's a winner.

Indeed it is. Not a cheap way of warming your bum, mind you, but an attractive way!

You could get the same design in brass but that was too yellow: this is lovely and warm. We have now started creating pictures in the swirly patterns. I've found a rabbit and the boys have found a shape which could be an elephant or a willy. This has now completely ruined the classy image!
