60 Day Makeover – The Kitchen Reveal

I think you’ve waited long enough. I wrote about the upheaval of putting in our new kitchen some weeks ago and apart from a few little photos showing how things were progressing, you haven’t had the chance to really have a good nosey at what we’ve done.
I recorded a short video showing our old kitchen the day before the fitters arrived – early May I think it was. Have a look at it so you can see what we changed.

VIDEO OF OLD KITCHEN

The new kitchen and utility room took about six weeks to complete before we could then start to put everything back in. It’s not completely finished as we’re waiting for some window blinds and we’re still experimenting with where things should live, but today seemed as good a day as any to let you have a poke about….

The kitchen looks really great….but the most fascinating thing was hearing your voice for the first time. Totally different to what I expected!

@Troy – Ha! What did you think I'd talk like? My Geordie/Newcastle accent is still there even after so many years away!

    Oooh and ahhh….
loving the space, the light, and all the green right outside your kitchen…am especially envious of your double ovens and that retractable door….who knew they could even do that? (Oh….and the counter looks even more spacious than I'd imagined…no worries about the induction hob after all….)

Woo! Nice one! D'ye know I looked at the old kitchen before reading the text and thought …oh…how to tell her…
I've tagged you on my blog by the way. Sorry….

@Ms Caroline – it feels a bit odd showing a video as I'm sure it's not to everyone's taste but I'm glad you like my ovens and long island!

@Macy – I think I should put some bigger headings on the two videos so people don't make the same mistake and say, God what hideous tiles!

Should be on TV with Sarah Beeny!

@Steve – Do you think so? I've always thought of myself as more of a Carol Smillie! Will get myself sorted with an agent though…

@Tattie – thank you! I think it's worth all the hard work and expense and thankfully I'm keeping it tidy so far – plenty of cupboards to shove things in!

I agree with Troy! and the kitchen is fantastic……..can we see the rest of the house next time???
p.s.any shenanigans on the island yet?

@Libby – I should have put my posh telephone voice on! And no, you can't see the rest of the house as that's where all the rubbish is: you don't think my worktops are always so empty?
As to the island, we need to do a risk assessment before shenanigans can commence 😉

Oooh it looks fantastic! For some reason I have no sound on my computer right now, so I will have to watch again when I work out what's gone wrong, but I was pleased to see the dish has pride of place! Emma 🙂

Oh Trish thank you so much for inviting us in! I adored hearing your voice, you sound so familiar (lots of my family is from England, I don't hear them enough! :). And I LOVE the local artwork, the island bench, the induction hob (I always wanted one of those…) and wow, the espresso 'art'. And, well, all of it really. Just… wow!! Congratulations, it is a thing of beauty and class. Now. If only I could pop over to admire in person and have a cuppa sitting at those gorgeous windows…. 😉

Wow, what a lovely BIG airy kitchen. It looks fantastic now and must be a joy to cook in. There's even room to get your son to help and learn the odd technique… 😀

@Emma – You're probably best keeping the sound off, though you'll miss the references to TV sitcoms and the like!

@Being Me – If you're going to say such lovely things, then you can come and visit any time you like! What colour coffee do you fancy?

@Sarah – Our favourite room, it's what sold us the house many years ago. Rory has his own special bar stool but yes, he helped me do some cooking the other day *faints*

Kitchen looks gorgeous! Love your artwork and seeing your dad's dish.
Shoe cupboard is also a great idea.
We have the same fridge/freezer, but an older model (my children also love getting the ice) x

Finally!! I was getting worried… Your new kitchen looks marvelous, it really was worth the wait!
Are you sure that this lime-green/white combination would not have been even more sumptuous, though? ;o)
And of course, I do hope that this fantastic island is still giving ideas to your hubby… ;o)

@Suzanne – the shoe cupboard has been fab: it means the cloakroom doesn't now have that faint odour of trainer!

@Funky – I'm sure the lime green/white combo would have been very 'now' but we couldn't have done all this again in a year's time when it became passe! It's quite safe, I suppose, in terms of colour/design but we are very happy with it. La Isla Bonita, as we call it, was certainly worth putting in!

@The Mad House – Do you know it was my hubby who got excited about the handle and hide-away door. Once he started playing with it in the showroom it had to be on the list. It's proving to be such a great design feature: I'm far less likely to drop stuff when I'm taking things out of the oven as I don't have to over-reach.

Funnily enough I could hear you but there was no picture – on my new iPad so maybe need to check on adobe ( trying to sound knowledgable) but it was great to hear the northern voice prevailing – why aye man, git choss!

@Diney – so glad you appreciated my northern twang. Must have sounded very odd without pictures – me saying, 'ooh look at that' and you having no idea what I was doing with the oven door!

Love this tour, wanted to see more inside the fridge – next time… Yes I would say I was surprised to hear your voice and LOVE your accent (though of course you don't have an accent, I do). You are made for home shows, love the "slidey" kitchen island and the really slidey oven door, have never seen one of those before. Wonder if they could have a bit larger slidey slit for me to hide from my kids…Your kitchen is stunning, so light and bright and shiny and modern, yet really comforting and inviting as kitchen should be…

@About last weekend – I suppose I should have opened a few more cupboards and the fridge door but was conscious not to make the recording too long. I know if I see a vlog (see that techno term there?!) which lasts longer than three or four minutes I'm less likely to click on it.
You know how I admire your taste in furnishings so I accept your compliments with a big cheesy grin!
