A year ago my husband, Dougie, sadly died. He had been diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer in 2020 and you may remember, when he was feeling well, we raised money for Neuroendocrine Cancer UK by cycling over 1000 miles on our exercise bikes.
Since his death, I’ve tried to keep going but couldn’t find the heart or energy to continue with my blog. I had shared so many experiences with this man and now he was no longer with me. What do I write about? How do I start again?
I’ve also had some health issues of my own this year so I’ve not really been travelling. Thankfully friends have helped me. I have regular dog walks with pals, despite not having a dog of my own, and people have been so kind, taking me to hospital appointments and generally being there for me. Our son, Rory, has also been a star. He is obviously missing his dad very much but he’s been so supportive, along with his lovely partner, Helen.
I’ve been thinking about blogging again and felt the anniversary might be a pivotal point. I was also given a gentle prod by a reader who messaged me, and commented on my previous blog post, to say that she would love to hear from me again in my ‘corner of the internet’. I was very touched by that.
So, here I am, back with an extremely slow laptop that either needs a reboot or a replacement. For now, I’ll just start with sharing a few photos of that wonderful man of mine. Dougie Burgess – you will always be in my heart as I move gently forward.

Beautiful 😍

Welcome back to your corner of the Internet. xx
Thank you, Katia. Feels a bit weird but now I’ve started hopefully I can feel a bit more inspired. x
