This is an entry for Tara Cain’s The Gallery, the theme this week is “Here Come the Girls”.
Summer 2009, a fantastic holiday on Lake Garda, staying in the town of Bardollino. The favourite night for husband and son was our final evening in the neighbouring town of Garda which was playing host to the regional finals of the Miss Italy contest. Despite the fact that it was starting late even my lazy son perked up at the thought and quite happily walked with us all the way to the town.
The contest was held in the open air with seats for everyone to watch, free of charge. For a good couple of hours we watched 31 Italian hotties strut up and down the catwalk. I kept thinking they would whittle them down to the final 15 or so, but the same 31 were shown in dresses, swimming costumes and bikinis. When a further round started, with clothes being added this time, the lads decide they had seen as much as they were going to, so we made our way home. For my part, I’d seen quite enough pert bottoms for one night, thank you very much!
The photo above was a shot I took but Number One Son, showing a boldness I’d never witnessed before, shuffled down to the front of the stage and muscled his way into the press corps with his little digital camera. He got some great pictures which he then posted on Facebook which increased his kudos at school no end when he returned in September. Here’s a couple below!
I spotted cellulite! I spotted cellulite!!!
I am so happy ;0)
I spotted a slightly droopy boob!! HOORAY!!
Wish I'd done that when I was school. The only photo I ever got was off my Auntie June wearing her knotted hankie sun hat. No kudos there, I'm telling you.
Kelloggsville – oh yes, I see. That's so reassuring.
Ladybird World Mother – where? I can hardly see any boobs at all, mainly padded bikini tops with not much in them.
Steve – yup, your mates would have found that a bit sad.
Your son is a genius, good work fella.
That's a lot of pert bottoms! I can't remember what that looks like!
CJ xx
Yay – I see the cellulite too lol!! Bet ur son loved it all right 🙂
Neseccity is the mother of invention or in this case bravery – well done No 1 son! Kudos well deserved!
PS and one day I'll learn to spell Necessity….!!
GoonerJamie – Genius? Will tell him.
CJ – look away, nothing to see here.
Nic – A very happy 14 year old!
Tattie – At least you noticed. I comment on blogs and leave shocking typos.
I bet he did… Good work son of mum's gone to! What an evening…
Ah the Italians appreciate beauty don't they…usually all shapes and sizes…and I bet that was a night your son won't forget in a hurry.
Have to say though as someone with a daughter I have mixed feelings about beauty contests….
The Dotterel – I'm training him well, the art of a useful photo opportunity.
Libby – Im not a fan either – but it made for a good night out!
Oh my! Won't be tking my blokes to a beauty contest in a hurry…they're bad enough without encouragement!
Taking not tking, that's just mad!
Christine – the sight of all these nubile young bodies seems to be affecting people's ability to type today haha! (see Tattie above)
Am wondering what I'd look like in a sky blue swimsuit with mesh insert over the stomach…hmmmn.
hehe…..typical boys! I bet it was fun though. 🙂
Footballer's Knees – I'm sure you'd look very…erm…um..blue?
Nova – it was a rather surreal evening: didn't quite expect it in a little town on the lake!
We were staying in Caesar's Palace in Vegas when my son was about 15 and the Playboy Convention was taking place (tacky!!) and we got in the lift with a gaggle of bunny girls!! I think that was the first time he had noticed girls!!! Pity your Rory wasn't there with his camera!
I don't switch on the 'puter for a week cos I'm too busy putting on weight and what do I get? Pretty ladies! Cool pics tho'. Must have been quite mesmerising – all those legs and bottoms walking up and down before your eyes. Did you get fake tan blindness?
Diney – playboy bunny girls in a lift! You win!
Madame SG – I think a lot of them had naturally tanned olive skin….bugger.
Strange, I never looked like that even at 17!
I can imagine you were pretty relieved to get out of there after an evening spent having pert botties, long legs, flat stomachs and long glossy hair thrust in your face. It's enough to have you reaching for the gin!
It's amazing what spurs a boy to action, innit?!! 🙂
Sarah – Rory had been avoiding being vertical all holiday so yes, this willingness to walk and muscle in with the cameramen was quite an insight into the teenage boy psyche!!
What a typical boy! x
I'm trying hard to remember a night when I'd seen enough pert bottoms………nope, can't think of one.
Kerry – it will probably get worse!
Troy – I think my husband said the same thing.
