Just to let you know, this week’s column in the Lincolnshire Free Press is all about stand-up comedy and, in particular, Dougie’s habit of getting into conversation with comedians. If you would like to have a read, it would be great to get some views on the online version.
Is there a doctor in the house?
It’s a while since I’ve mentioned my other blog, the one where I’m writing up my dad’s memoirs. In the latest post, following on from a number about his time at Cambridge, he is now travelling to Scandinavia to visit housing developments appropriate for his architecture degree. I managed to find some albums with his photos from the trip so it has been fascinating to see his snaps of Copenhagen and Stockholm, taken in 1956. This first post covers his time in Denmark. Sweden to follow shortly.
We enjoy live comedy, but always hide, American comedians have a bad habit of picking on people in the first couple of rows.
Some of them do that here too. In fact, at the last gig, three teenage boys who Rory knew were in the front row and were teased mercilessly.
Heading over to read – you are going great guns with that column – I miss live comedy, the good bad and ugly, must head over to SF and get filled in
I'm really enjoying the column – surprising myself that I can come up with things to write about. We do love live comedy: something we have always done together as a family.
Nothing wrong with a bit of repartee. Mind you the worst experience of my life was when I was in front rows of a feminist/gynaecological play/performance. AND THEY ALL PICKED ON ME AS THE SOLE MALE BASTARD IN SHOUTING DISTANCE.
See here
Oh TSB, have just been for a read. You really were in the firing line. No support from the other males further back, I see.
Nope.
When the girls gang up, the blokes run for their lives.
I'd love to be sitting near to you and Dougie, it would be hilarious! I've not seen very many stand up comedians live – I should see a few more I think.
It's definitely worth trying them out. We love them – Rory has been getting tickets for birthdays and Christmas for years now, then we tag along!
Sounds like Dougie is game for a laugh! Greatly enjoyed your article, and the comments below, especially the one about which pub Dougie goes to.
I read the adventures of your dad in Scandinavia and how much he liked the clean lines of the architecture and design. Very interesting trip.
He always surprises me as he is such a quiet chap but is happy to make fun of himself. Dougie is the subject again in tomorrow's paper – his 50th birthday! He doesn't mind at all, bless him.
Looking forward to adding to the Scandinavian experiences with Sweden next. I keep leaving it too long in between posts yet when I do type one up it's such a joy.
Dougie sounds hilarious. I love the description of comedy Tourette's! He really should meet the Shah – they'd make a killer combo!
I think you're right! What a night that would be :-))
